Wedding and evening dresses with wing sleeves

The wing sleeve slightly covers the top of the shoulder and ends at the armhole. It should be evaluated in front and profile: check the angle of the edge, symmetry, connection with the bodice, underwear and behavior when arms are raised. Such a detail does not guarantee covering the armhole or changing the proportions of the shoulders.

34 model

A few centimeters of fabric above the shoulder form a separate detail: the wing-sleeve only goes to the upper part of the shoulder and quickly ends at the armhole. It is defined not just by its short length, but by its characteristic short hem and the way it goes from the bodice to the arm. The name does not imply coverage of the armhole, support or visual correction of the shoulders.

A line that must be seen from both sides

In the face, trace where the wing begins and at what angle its edge goes from the neck to the arm. The profile shows whether the detail repeats the shoulder, departs from it, and how it connects to the armhole. Compare the right and left sides for height, edge direction, and seam placement. If the model has open back, repeat the check from the back: the short shoulder line should match both edges of the top.

Short sleeve is a broader category and can reach much lower; the wing is concentrated near the top of the shoulder. Open shoulders build another line - below the shoulder joint. Therefore, these marks should not be used interchangeably.

Raise your arms, reach forward and turn your body: see how the angle of the sash changes, where the fabric gathers at the armhole and if the underwear becomes visible. If it reaches the edge floral motif or embroidery, compare the placement of the pattern on both sides. At the fitting in CRYSTAL, capture a natural pose and raised arms in face and profile — this will show the real edge better than a photo on a rack.
